FISHING

At three quarters of a mile wide and over 200 feet deep, Raspberry Straight ( which is directly in front of Port Vita Lodge) offers great salt water fishing for halibut, as well as four species of salmon, as they return on their migration from sea to spawn in nearby streams. Fishing is superb! We often catch halibut over 100 lbs right in Raspberry Straight, which means no long boat trips or queasy stomachs. As well, our access to a variety of different fishing holes and streams provide pure fishing enjoyment and challenge to novice as well as expert fishermen. Everyone catches a fish!
For those interested in fly fishing, where you can fight fish without the hassle of fighting crowds, look no further than Port Vita Lodge. Our location on Raspberry Straight grants us access to many remote fishing areas on both Raspberry and Afognak Islands that provide excellent fly fishing opportunities throughout the season. At Port Vita, we have something for all skill levels from beginner to expert, as well as having a knowledgeable guide who will help you with fly selection and technique. For the true fanatics out there, we also offer trips targeting Rockfish.
Our main lodge provides a central living and lounging area, perfect for getting comfortable after a successful day of fishing. There is a wide selection of movies, games to play, a bar area to mix up a cocktail, and plenty of room to just relax near the fire and read or swap stories.
We furnish the deep sea tackle for halibut, with a brand new selection of equipment. We also provide spin casting rods and fly rods, though you are welcome to bring your own, if you have a preference. Fishing licenses, hot local flies, and other tackle can be purchased in the town of Kodiak before your arrival at Port Vita. It is also recommended that you have a pair of hip wader boots to keep you dry and comfortable when getting on and off the boats.
